1998 Other Jeep Models Engine starts OK, but wont idle, dies

Have a 98 Jeep GC 5.9 V8. This problem has been developing over the last few months. First, I noticed that the car would just die sometimes, usually at low idle, but a couple times just riding down the highway at 30 or so. Very dangerous. Now, it starts OK, without difficulty, but then dies if I dont keep my foot on the accelerator and baby it. If I drive away, as soon as my foot comes off the pedal, it dies. Any suggestions where to start looking?

Try and do this 1st
remove idle valve and clean
clean throttle body and air way
check for codes and record if any
disconnect battery and reconnect
start engine let it idle
take and drive it for a bit let me know if better
