I cracked my head gasket/cylinders and they told me they could rebuild my engine but it would cost around 2500$. I was just wondering if that is a reasonable estimate, or if I should take it elsewhere. I found a used engine with low mileage on it for under 1000$, what is a fair price for installing the motor if I decide to do that?

it is a 5.9 liter 360 small

Replacing your vehicles cylinder heads should only cost around $1,500 . That is $1,000 for labor and $500 for both new heads / gaskets.

It will cost around $750 to remove and replace the entire engine assembly, plus the $1,000 for the engine which is $1,750.

I would go with replacing the entire engine for that price over just the heads and I would definitely consider taking it to a different shop, first shop seems well overpriced.
