Engine Performance problem
2007 Jeep Liberty 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 117K miles

I m smelling my catalytic converter with this many miles, will this cause back flow in my moter to help with carbon buildup? I use cleaner all the time and still get carbon buildup

I drive about 2 k a week or more when I work ( I m a pilot for oversize truckloads ) I buy all kinds of gas but get less buildup with Shell gas

I m thinking of replaceing my cataalytic converter to get better air flow. Do you think this will help?

A lot of people with the 3.7 motor tell they have this problem with carbon buildup and can ben a valve

Your cat converter wont cause excessive carbon build up. It will most likely be from excessive clearance in the valve guides, worn valve seals or the engine "sucking" oil past the rings. You may be smelling the converter from ithe engine burning oil and coating the inside of the cat converter.A cyinder leak-down test will tell you exactly where the excessive leakage is coming from. Does it just ping when you use lower octane fuel?
