This morning the water pump started leaking smoke coming out of the front end and I had to pull into nearest gas station.

Mechanic tells me the thermostat should be replaced as well and a hose that is soft should be replaced.

All in all close to $800.00.

Does this sound at all reasonable.

800 bucks just for replacing a radiator hose, thermostat and water pump on your vehicle is WAY overpriced. These repairs, including parts, should only be around $350. May want to have another shop give you an estimate on those repairs.
