I would like an estimate of the cost of labor to replace an engine in a 2004 Jeep Liberty. I plan to purchase a new engine and then pay someone to install it and would like a ball park estimate to compare to when I call around to get prices so I don't get ripped off. Thank you.

Depends on what they are using for a replacement engine

1-Long Block- requires the transfer of all external parts (valve covers/oil pan/exhaust manifolds/intake. Etc) Labor time for that is 14.7 hours

2- Short Block- requires the cylinder heads to be transferred as well as the above mentioned parts. Labor rate for that is 17.7 hours

3- Complete engine- As in a take out from a salvage yard that already has the external parts on it. Labor rate for that is 10.7 hours

Ask for the shop rate and you will have your labor cost.
For the engine it depends on what you want, salvage yard, new or reman
