Check Engine Light will not go off

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 120,000 miles. 4x4 Automatic Trans.

First part, I have a "check engine" light on solid all the time that throws a p1494 Code and have had the Leak Detection Pump Switch Replaced as well as the Vacuum tested. The light will go off after a repair is made and come on within the next 5-10 days. I am not sure where to turn from here.

Second part, sometimes while driving, I will hit the gas and the Jeep will hesitate for a few seconds, then there will be some kind of knock sound coming from the front (I believe the driver's side) then the Jeep will run great. I have done a tune up (plugs, wires, distributor and cap) and still have the problem. What is weird is that this problem is intermittent and happens 1-3 times per month.

Any suggestions on either of these topics would be greatly appreciated.

For the code, I would recommend smoking the system. When looking for the smoke, the intake gasket should be watched as well as that may be part of the second problem.
