2000 Jeep Laredo oil pressure

We recently had a new oil pump installed because the oil pressure would fluctuate between 0 and 40. When it idles it went down to 0. After we took it home it still didn't get past 40 and went down to 0 while idling. My question is Given the year and mileage of my jeep is this normal. Or did we get taken thanks.

It sounds as if your oil sensor is working properly and I would say that your engine could be on the way out. Your engine may have worn bearings or other internal components.
