I have a 1994 jeep grand cherokee AWD with plenty of wear and millage. Last night I hit a snow bank and got stuck pretty bad. After a combination of doing some VERY brief rocking and spinning my tires (without letting the motor race to any particularly high rpms), as well as very briefly improperly putting the car into 4 low (dont as what the logic behind that was.) The car developed a sort of knocking sound whenever it went into gear. At that point I left it in neutral and had a friend pull me out. Afterwards the car did in fact drive, but at idle or low speeds it makes a terrible knocking/grinding sound (sounds like gears griding?), I've completely lost my park function. (Its like neutral) and I think it my rpms MIGHT be a bit higher than usual when I accelerate any idea whats could be going on?

The only thing I can say is to check the 4wd linkage. It sounds like you are almost in neutral which will cause a noise and could affect the park gear.

Let me know what you find.
