At the low end of each gear the jeep puts out a fair amount of smoke with a pretty embarrassing odor. The converter is in good shape, most of the exhaust is ok and not real rusty. I know that white smoke means burning oil, but what causes that smell?

Is it a sweet smell? White ususally is coolant burning whereas oil burns a littel blueish. HAve it chemical tested for a blown head gasket before you worry about the odor or oil consumption. Burning oil has a rubbery smell to it.
