I have been having a hard time w/ my CJ. I dont drive it very often. I drove it about 3 months ago, and it ran rough until it was warm. It would die on me if I didnt keep my foot on the gas when I would stop. It now will not start. It tries to turn over but will not fire up. If I squirt a little starter fluid into the carb, it will fire for a second. I replaced the fuel filter first, no luck. I then replaced the fuel pump today, and it still wont fire. Do I have to "prime" the pump to get it going or should I just pump the pedal?

Any other suggestions to get it started?

Check the float level in the carburetor. You probably need to adjust it. Make sure the check ball valve is operational too. The pump should prime itself as long as you have fuel in the tank. However; if you think that air might have gotten into the "suction line" when you replaced the pump then you can buy a hand pump at your parts store and prime it manually. Prior to 88 models all gas tanks were made of steel and not polyproplene. Rust can occur inside these tanks if you have condensation or even some water in your gas. Your fuel wasnt red or milky correct? Also make sure you don't have a pinched fuel line anywhere if you take her offroad.
