After cold temps of upper 20s here in Austin, TX, last night, I noticed this morning as I was driving to work that my oil pressure guage was reading maximum at 80. It usually reads 40 or less normally and fluctuates lower during idle.

any clue as to what might have happened in the last 12 hours? Sensor gone bad? Overactive oil pump?

please say it'll be a cheap fix;o)

thanks
Joyce

I know that when oil gets cold (like here in North Idaho) the pressure will go up but shouldn't stay that high. So my first thing would be to manually have the pressure checked to see what it really is. If you don't want to take it in to check the pressure then I would replace the oil sending unit and see if that fixes it. Let me know what you find.
