I was on the way down to the beach recently and my air conditioner stopped blowing cold air. The air conditioner itself still blows its just blowing hot air now. I took it somewhere they told me it was going to cost $1800 to fix? That just seems a little extreme.I was wondering how much a compressor ran and does that even sound right?

Wow! That is a lot of money. Are they replacing the entire system? Did they tell you what was the cause? If they said the compressor, I would estimate around 500.00, but I don't know where you live and the labor rates.

Let me know if you have other questions.

It sounds like you need to replace the evaporator core. It is located under the dash on the passenger side. Labor is expensive on this fix, because to replace the evaporator you need to raise the dashbord about 5 inches to access.
