Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 98 jeep cherokee. The engin is running really ruff so ruff that its not driveable. After about 5mins of running the mini cat stats smokin alot. Dose the mini cat need to be changed or the problem is somewere else in the engine?

Hello, when was the last tune-up? Are there any codes? I'm not sure if you can access any codes by cycling the ignition switch? It wouldn't hurt to try. Cycle the key, on--off, on---off, on, then the check engine lite starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes. You don't crank it.
