1997 Jeep Cherokee A light show

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 185042 miles. The dash lights will go dim, off and back on when the headlights are on. If I have the headlights put on automatic the headlights will flicker high beam, low beam on and off along with the inside lights doing the same. It is a light show.

When a vehicle experiences problems with the headlamp system, verify the condition of the battery connections, charging system, headlamp bulbs, wire connectors, relay, high beam dimmer switch and headlamp switch.

I would check for the connections first. Next I would check the wiring between the headlight switch and instrument cluster. HAve seen some headlight switch problem on these.
