1996 Jeep Cherokee Jeep wont start

Dont quite understand the answer I was given, check the source of power, ie battery and can handle the load. Surely if you jump start a battery of a diesel vn for a hour and the battery says full load and still wont start when key is turn fully on. Does mean my battey mite be duff, and not working
