1996 Battery cables

My car is needing to have the battery cables cleaned every couple of months. It has started becoming corroded at the connections. I was told it was okay to pour coca cola or a mixture of water and baking soda on the connections. Is this correct? If so, please tell me exactly how to do this. My battery and cables are not old. The battery and one cable was recently replaced. Is this normal for them to be corroding? Thank you for your help.

Hello,

Yes the coke and the baking soda will work for a temp cleaning.

I would recommend removing the cables cleaning them real good with a wire brush and some steel wool and have some Dielectric Grease on hand. Once clean coat the battery terminal and the cable end and any exposed wire with the grease make sure you coat it good and don't worry about the excess. This will keep the terminals from corroding.
