Engine Cooling problem
1995 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The water temperature gauge is at 260, but I don't see a leak any where and the radiator cap is cool to the touch. There is some moisture below the head gasket area with a little smoke.

Is the gauge maxed out from the moment you start the car cold?

If so, it's likely a sensor or wiring fault (sensors around around 20$).

If not, you may have a thermostat stuck closed or an air bubble preventing the thermostat from warming up sufficiently to open. Make sure your coolant is topped off, and replace the thermostat if the problem persists.

The gauge is buried within a matter of a few miles. I already changed out the thermostat, and it did the same thing. Thank you for your help about the bubble, or the sensor.
