POSSIBLE HELP !See my profileINSURE your bulbs (all that may be involved) are all the way in. CORRECTLY! (NOT just jammed in any old way)If NO-GOrun temporary jumper from NEG GRD BATT to housing/ NEG on wire/ to bulb/ touch GRD screws/ etc. That grounds that system---TOUCH ONLY-ONLY-ONLY GROUNDS. If one of these operations makes it work. Repair that GROUND problem. Like I said, "POSSIBLE HELP"

I am ASSUMING stuff now!(Below) You do know the definition of AS.S--U--ME, don't you?

Your lights have always worked fine

no recent work has affected them

there has been no damage to your rig

*****bulbs are properly in sockets--no foreign objects in sockets--Internals of sockets not touching each other. Have 2nd local opinion on these inspections

***** the fuse that was blown, KILLED EXACTLY WHAT SYSTEMS?

***** we are on BATTERY NEGATIVE POST, and on the other endon metal--or a FOR SURE Ground Wire?

***** If our temporary ground is correct--let it remain as that good ground--get a 2nd opinion.

Remove ****ALL**** of the affected bulbs---that are controlled by this blowing FUSE, ****ONE AT A TIME, **** Preform the LIGHTS ON TEST while each is out. YOU WILL PROBABLY BLOW SOME FUSES ! ! !

WE are now trying to pin down the short. Is it on one particular wire (or bundle) or is it INTERNAL IN THE SWITCH

Remember. POSSIBLE HELP. Was my motto, sometimes others jump in to help.

I WILL STAY WITH YOU. You know what I mean. If you read my profile & points. SEND OBSERVATIONS.

Can you remove, these extra factors, one at a time, from the equation by disconnecting plugs/bulbs/etc. In order to POSSIBLY find the unit or its wiring causing the problem.

Have you removed radio, run screws in something, snatched on wires, that may have resulted in a short.

Near the time this started showing up? (Remember, possible help, I hope someone will jump in here and yell BINGO)

Well Big Guy, I am no expert, and I might take this one step further,

I myself, in order to maybe save $,

(Mr. Risktaker, who by some means on 10 MAR 1981, Had his high school machine shop project, a 16th century naval type .50 Caliber cannon, accidently?!?!, blasted a thru and thru hole in his arm, just below the shoulder),

Attempt 1) Would probably remove the light multifunction switch, remove the switch off or the wire harness, introduce 12v to all systems, at its "plug-in", after a recon of the wire diagram so I only touch out-going 12v pins. Using a something similar to this TEST as in pic set-up below, as to maybe not fry something. If there is a short, my 20 amp fuse will blow at that pin (whatever its function is, providing I am not on a ground)confuse the hell out of you, yet?

Attempt 2)Self service salvage yard for cheap replacement. Hope for a GOOD one, not messed up, too

Attempt 3)----Give up on eliminating switch factor, buy a new one at auto parts store, definitly, take it out of the equation.!!

YOUR TAKE ON IT?

When you try to use "PM" what is the message you get?

Just by going on what a I can see from here, ASSUMING your ground jumper is on a GROUND surface!

I'd pick door number 1, the multifunction switch being you enemy.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER OPINIONS OUT THERE?

Kinda lost there, did YOU SEE MY PROFILE?

I think this is where you have to dig in MAMAs pocket book and get the MANUAL you should have purchased long ago, get the switch while you are there, too.

Attempt a "PM" to me, see if 2car dudes will allow you to.

Keep it coming,

Right here, right now.

DUH, I went to the Cherokee posts and found you !

Most rigs use 12volts to power their lighting, they just control it differently !

Just showing off the most beautiful 1977 JEEP CJ5 in the world, MINE, have '46 Willys, too. (My avatar)

THEY MAKE MANUALS FOR YOURS, TOO, It MAY give you step by step on doing your switch.

It may also help you in the troubleshooting section, with this problem.

I ALWAYS SAY, "SEE MY PROFILE" AT THE BEGINNING OF MY EVERY ANSWER. (Read posts at my profile)

I wrote my profile so that ANYONE could see what would really help them, NOW and LATER! It HELPS ME (their manual) explain stuff to them.

They can reference, me, using the manual. Especially if they haven't a clue.I hate writing answers to people, and having to explain like they were babies.

I will do what it takes, but my typing is slow, and some understanding on the other end, helps BOTH of us alot. Me not writing a novel. And them, less screw-ups and vehicle downtime.

I TRY TO ALWAYS SAY THAT I DO NOT KNOW THEIR PARTICULAR RIG (if I don't), but, I may know how to help figure it out. (Since nobody else has jumped in)

I WISH EVERYONE HAD A MANUAL, so much good stuff in them:

maintenece schedules, troubleshooting, definitions, step by step maintenece/ and repairs, wiring diagrams, ETC. All for about $20-$30

Yours to keep it forever, Its in your rig for roadside emergencies. Many other people may know how to use it, if you are confused. BUT. YOU'VE GOT IT. MIGHT BE YOUR LIFE-LINE.

Due to the fact, that "profile" was not intended for the way I use it, it has limited space, and I wish it had more room. For there is more stuff I would like to stick in there.

I hunt and peck really slow, grammer is good, and punctuation, too. If I had room, I wouldn't have to repeat stuff time and time again in my answers. I AM SLOW ! ! !

NOW, are we straight?, I MAKE NO MONEY HERE, I am a PLUMBER, I was injured at work, out 15 months now. LOTS OF KICKED BACK TIME, LIMITED TO WHAT I CAN DO

Just trying to help you, and others, nobody has jumped in, so do we keep going? (Others may appear) or you resubmit your question.I won't touch it.

WHAT ARE YOUR FINDINGS WITH YOUR RIG, THUS FAR?
