1994 Jeep Cherokee iignition switch

Jeep starts but when I release key the engine stops--just had aproblem with dead battery-replaced battery then this happened--iwith key on all accec work--if I hold key in start pos --engine runs but noaccesorys-everything thing points to ign swich on col--but I am not sure-jeep runs fine if I hold key in start pos

Check the ignition switch and the coil resistor, if equipped. When the starter is engaged there is a direct connection to the coil. The intention is to give the coil a little more voltage when the starter is engaged. If the ignition switch isn't connecting properly, it won't run when you release the starter. If your vehicle uses a coil resistor you might get the same results from defective coil resistor.
