1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport fuel/transmission problem?

Tried starting up my jeep today but it never turned over. It finally turned over and when I pressed down on the gas it didn't accelerate. Instead it was really choppy and the entire car shook. Also I have to shake around my shifter sometimes for it to start. Any suggestions?

Well I just went out to start my Jeep and its fine now. (I have no idea what happened) But the problem still remains about starting it. I will turn the key over and nothing happens. Stereo and lights work but no starting until I jiggle around my shifter. Any ideas?

Is it standard or automatic? If it is a standard, it could be the neutral start saftey switch, not sure if that is exactly what it is called but I know it is close. It's probably a loose connection. Not sure where it is, I will check when I get home and reply later today.

It is an automatic. Its odd though. I just jiggle around my shifter and it starts. I do believe its a loose connection also. Any ideas on how much this should cost to fix?
