1993 Jeep Cherokee V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 263k miles

I read and saw the diagram showing where & how to check the codes for vehicles 1996 and later, but I am unable to find it on my vehicle.
I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the check engine light on. My neighbor went to hook up to check the code but we are unable to find where it plugs in. The manuel was of no help.
Help !

An OBDII reader will not work on your truck
try and do the key trick
cycle ignition key ON OFF ON OFF ON
check engine should blink the codes (* ** will be code 12 ***** ***** will be code 55and so on )
