So the deal is, I had replaced my belt because the other one was old, worn and squealing. Everything was fine and quiet for a little less than a day. Then all of a sudden, it started with a much louder much more obnoxious squeal. It wont do it when the car is idling, it will do it as I drive and slow when I slow down and will stop when push in the clutch and increase as speed increases as well as when I rev the engine. It's not a wheel bearing because it does it when im not in motion. The part where it stops when I push in the clutch is confusing. It sounds like it might be coming from the alternator but im not sure. Was curious if anyone had any input?

JeepGirl, I just replaced the serpentine belt on my 99 cherokee. It was squeeling badly, but only when the A/C was on. The old belt was cracked and badly glazed. I'm sure its the glaze that makes it squeel, and/or tension too light. Two days after I put on the new one a couple of small "chirps". I put more tension on the belt and problem solved. You can also rent a tension guage. Hope this helped you!
