First, sorry about the delay in getting back to you. I lost my father this week and things have been.

What are you doing that concerns you about the computer?

Wow, I'm sorry about your loss. I've been there and it's no fun.

About the computer? I understand the computer compensates for any adjustment that's made on the carb or thottle body so I was asking if I am able to turn that little screw that there is no head on (the picture) to allow the throttle stop to drop a little closer to the ISA, would or could that cause me a problem I might not be able to reverse? I'm stlll working on it, but I am able to drive the car now. Thanks a lot for your help. Jay

Thank you, and your right. It is very hard to deal with. We now have a house filled with everything and don't know where to start.

As far as the adjustment, you should be able to do it.

Well I made it back. This is Jay with the 88 Jeep Cherokee FAST IDLE problem.
I've been working my way down that list of items you suggested I work on, some of which takes me longer than others. However, remember that headless screw I sent a picture of? I tried to loosen the screw with penatrating oil and etc. To no success so far. I made some careful measurements and have to date filed that screw from the top of it's head down.035 with very good results so far but I'm taking it pretty easy and careful.
I certainly have slowed most of the fast idle. When I start it cold it idles just right. It takes longer now than it did before for the engine's idle to speed back up but even warm it's slower now. I'm wondering if the on board computer compensates for the change I'm making by filing that screw head.
I've taken it down at about.005 at a time and each time it is obviously slower but after a few miles it seems to gain back some of it's idle speed. Right now it's a little high after warming up but certainly in acceptable range now.
I'm working on resetting the base idle speed back to it's original computer setting but have not made much progress with that yet. Your diagrams and directions are a lot of help.
Still working on it but at your call consider this job done if you want to. Thanks alot, Jay
