My Elantra had the shifter stuck in neutral. It couldn't be moved. I put the emergency brake on and waited for AAA since I couldn't move the shifter. The tow truck driver was able to release the shifter upon working with it. So I drove it to the dealer and they said that there was a recall, something to do with a switch that has been causing this problem and I had just not gotten my recall notice yet. Well, the shifter is working now after the recall work but I am totally unsure if the problem is fixed. Is there any way to know if I will run into this problem again or is it something where only time will tell?

Hi. I have an 02 Hyundai Elentra. The gears had been acting up recently (I had to start the car in nuetral). I checked the middle console to see if anything was stuck under the gears. There was nothing there that I could see, but I sprayed some DW40 and shortly thereafter, the gears were not as finicky. However, it's a few weeks later, and now I can't even get my car into park. When I park, I have to leave my car in reverse and put on the emergency brake. Fortunately, I am able to get my key out when I do this. I have already put a lot of money in this car lately and can't really afford much more. Any idea what this could be? (Note a couple of months ago I did have to get a new battery and alternator.) Thank you.
