Car had been sitting for several months without being started - had fuel in both tanks - battery had essentially died - friend and I attached a battery charger for about 30 - 45 minutes - attempted to start - car sputtered and spurted and tried to start but would not turn over completely - we added fresh fuel to one tank - attempted to start it several times and it finally turned over and ran - moved it about 20 feet and let it run for about 30 minutes facing slightly down hill - it stalled out on its own - tried restarting - was able to get it started but it would run for about 5 seconds and stall - in order to get it to run longer than that required the accelerator/gas pedal to be pressed and released, pressed and released, pressed and released rapidly - why will it not run/idle on its own upon initial start up - any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds like a fuel problem. If the car had sat for any length of time, the time it did run may have finished off a partially plugged fuel filter. Have you checked? Also, you can fuel flow by disconnecting the fuel line from the fuel rail and place in a coffee can. Have someone crank the engine. You should get a steady stream. Do this carefully. You don't want a fire. Hope this solves your problem. Did you at anytime get a check engine light? If so, a trouble code may show a sensor problem.
