I dropped a nut that went on my intake valve, engine got cranked and shortly after started making clanking noise like the nut was bouncing around then shut off. Started it up again and no more random clinks but a consistent one plus smoke out exhaust. I have removed all spark plugs and passenger cylinder head plus used magnet rod in every crevice I saw and pulled nothing out. My manifold gasket was shot but I don't see anything else. Any chance the nut shot down to oil pan or should I keep looking elsewhere?

Hello,

If the cylinder head is off the vehicle and it is not stuck in a valve and you do not see it on top of the piston, then my guess is it is probably stuck in that banks muffler.

Thanks,
Alex

So what do I need to do next? Is it safe to replace gaskets and rebuild or do I need to keep on looking?

Hello again,

Is there any damage to the valves or the valve seats(where the valve seals itself when closed on the cylinder head? Is there any noticeable damage to the piston rings or the top of the piston? If the answer, is no, then yes it is safe to rebuild. If yes, or if you are unsure, please get to me with your concern.

Thanks,
Alex

So got both cylinder heads off and I do have a bent rod. So I will need to replace all of those obliviously, but I will attach an image of my pistons so you can tell me if I am okay.

Hello again,

Sorry to hear about your valves. The pistons look okay to me from the pictures. That's a decision that you will ultimately have make though. Do you need factory instructions on rebuilding the cylinder heads for your vehicle? Let me know one way or another please.

Thanks,
Alex

I thought I could just replace the rod that sits under the lifter and be good. So if there is more then yes I definitely need that information. Also, if you have the torque order and specs for reassembling the heads and manifold that would be awesome.

Hello again,

I did not see that last post. I would not take a chance with that engine block. At the very least it looks like a new sleeve will have to be put into that cylinder. I am not telling you to do this but if it were me, I would consult a local machine shop of your choosing. I have no information to give you on this procedure. Let me know what happens.

Thanks,
Alex

Okay. I am just worried that you will get your engine reassembled and then find out you have coolant leaking through your cylinder wall and have to tear it back down again. It is entirely up to you. I will get you those instructions in a few. I am answering this on my cell phone and will get those when I get home to my computer.

Thanks,
Alex
