96 Isuzu Rodeo using windshiled wipers kills engine

1996 Isuzu Rodeo, Girl friends SUV-V6 - 5 speed manual transmission 246K miles, but timing belt and water pump replaced last month. Overall decent mechanical conditon except for problem below.
Girl friends SUV, last week when windshield wipers were turned on it killed the engine and wouldn't run well after trying to restart. Mechanic fixed and said it was loose ground. Yesterday same thing happened, except engine runs fine when you restart. Kills engine though when wipers are turned on. Could it be a bad wiper relay or module or something?

Any insight will be appreciated.

Hopefully we have a better season this year! Lonely being a Steelers fan in Socal! Is the wiper control on the steering column? Check the wiring to see if something is shorted out, that is what it sounds like, might be something obvious
