Intermittent dash light problem

Dash lights used to randomly turn off while driving at night and we could tap the roller switch on the dash and they would come back on. They recently went out for good so I bought a new switch and still nothing.
In addition the courtesy light that should come on when the car is started and the roller switch is rolled all the way up, does not work either (unless I touch one of the black wires on back of the switch to the blue wire). But this trick does not work for the dash lights.
All of the connections at the switch are tight.
All fuses under the dash are good.
Is it possible that the new switch is bad or am I missing something else?

With the key on run, light switch on at least park, check if the "int" fuse in the engine room fuse box has voltage on both sides of that fuse. If so, check if the red/black wire at the back of that switch is hot.

I can see you can get the switches out. Most automotive store have a electrical contact cleaner. It is cheap, get a can and spray into the switch. It may be just a contact problem. Let it dry after you move the tumbler back and forth a few times when using the cleaner, all it takes is a little build up and can play havoc with your light dimmer control.
