Where is the intake temperature sensor located?

The check engine light is on, and the scanner has a code for 'implausible signal intake air temperature", I am not sure where this part is located. I replaced the MAF sensor which I thought had the air temperature sensor combined in it but that did not fix the problem. I am not sure where the air temperature sensor is located.

Hi,

The air intake temperature sensor is integral with the manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP). Take a look below. I attached a pic and highlighted the component. Is that what you replaced?

If you provide the diagnostic trouble code you had, it may help me to determine what needs to be replaced.

Yes, that is the part that I replaced because the information was exactly as you stated but the problem was not fixed. I also replaced the air filter since the old one was very dirty, I thought that could alter the readings as well.

By chance, do you still have the diagnostic trouble code that was retrieved? If I had that, I can see if there is any specific information with regards to diagnostics. Most times, a code provides nothing more than a starting point and a simple part replacement doesn't always fix the issue.

Actually, I replaced the MAF sensor which I have highlighted in the first picture. I put the old one back and returned the one I bought. The other pics are from the scanner. Is it possible that you could identify which part is the MAP sensor in the picture of my engine? The exploded diagrams like you sent previously are confusing since they do not depict an actual engine in real life.

Hi,

Okay, looking at the third pic leads me to believe this is a diesel (turbo). The heading didn't indicate turbo, so I didn't question it. Am I correct? Pic 1 appears to be a diesel.

As far as a MAP sensor, it won't have one if it is a diesel.

Yes, it is a diesel, I had thought I stated that at the beginning. 2014 VW Jetta TDI, 2.0 L diesel.

No problem. The two codes are related to the same sensor. These are on the piping for the turbo/inner cooler.

Your schematic is fine, but I am still having difficulty locating the sensor in my car. If I could determine where it is located, I could decide whether to pay someone else to change it for me or do it myself. Can you determine from the pics that I sent of my engine where the sensor is located? Thanks.

Hi,

It should run from the turbo to the airbox. If you look below, I found a pic of where it attaches to the turbo and the direction it goes upward.

If possible, can you get a few pics of the engine looking from the top down?

There is no IAT sensor located where you have circled the intake air pipe. I have tried to get information from Hayne's or Chilton's but apparently, they are both out of business. I am not sure why this is such a difficult issue.

I am going to make this even more interesting. I have read through every manual I have. According to what I am finding, the charge air pressure and IAT are combined.

Take a look at pic 1. See if you can locate that sensor on your vehicle. Also, pic 2 indicates they are the same part.

I took a picture of the part that looks like it corresponds to the diagram you sent. I am not sure how to change it since it is located behind the engine. Any instructions or video of that?

If these directions are correct, it looks like a job that I cannot perform myself since there are multiple special tools and procedures such as generating a vacuum and sealing the line. I would rather not get into the turbo on my own. Thanks for your information, I will probably need to take it to a shop and get it done.
