I nearly have to pull the inside handles to the breaking point to open the doors (it's a two door truck). From the outside they unlatch easily, but the driver's door often won't open from the inside. Is there a cable or rod adjustment that I can make to make the inside handles do their jobs easily? Thanks.

Yes pull the door panel off and see if the clips are worn on the rod or the rod has worn the handle your clips may be partially broken on the rod leading to thelatch

Turns out that the clips on this particular model, don't wear out. What has happened is that the genuine GM handles on both sides cracked and one actually broke when I removed the door panel. I replaced both handle assembles not with genuine $67 each handles from GM, but with $16 each handles from NAPA which seem to have a shorter throw than the GM handles did. The doors now open effortlessly. Thanks for the reply.
