Hi, a customer brought in a car someone tried to swap the engine for him and long story short it doesn’t work. Needed misc sensors, knock harness was ripped, and some buttoning up. Got it all together and car Cranks but no start. The car is missing spark. Every fuse in the engine compartment panel and the interior panel is good. I scoped cam and crank sensors and the patterns seem normal, unless they’re slightly out of spec they seem uniform. NATS red light is out while cranking and turns on when key is out, so I believe that is functioning. Fuel is on plugs. Guy had the grounds placed on painted areas of the block and I relocated them to no avail either, at least the ones in the front. ECM can communicate and has no codes. No codes in four modules (that’s the only ones I can com with or see listed) used consult ii to run self-diagnostic came back with no error in system. What am I missing here? Is there a specific ground for the coils? I checked all the big power and grounds at the ECM and they seem okay. I even checked a couple of small pin ones. My wiring diagrams on Prodemand are slightly off, they give me the automatic ignition circuit, but I was able to work through that mostly. What can I check or where do I start? TB is responsive and fuel turns on and sprays.

Hi,

It sounds like you've covered a lot already. Hopefully, between the two of us, we can figure it out.

Do you have power to the coils via the white/blue wires at each coil? If not, have you checked fuse 82 and the ECM relay (IPDM)? They should all have power when the key is on or in the start position.

Next, the PCM provides the ground path. Have you checked for a ground signal at any of the coils?

Last, there is a ground at the top, in front of the engine (F23). Did you notice that on the schematic? Have you checked it? See pic below.

Let me know.

Joe

The IPDM does send out power out of 35. However, it says to check a pin called current return for the signal. On the manual this pin is not there at labeled spot, did find one that it matched up to though via continuity and it does get 12v there. The coils do all have power I believe. I will double check tomorrow. I recall them having power and feel like I wouldn’t have stepped past them otherwise, but who knows may have missed it. I will check the ground for the coils. I scoped the signal line and got no feedback as if ECM is not sending the signal. I checked every fuse in both panels.

Hi,

That will do it. Anything to make it a little more difficult. LOL Regardless, I'm glad to hear you found the problem.

Please feel free to come back anytime in the future if you have questions. You're always welcome here.

Take care and I hope you have a great Christmas.

No problem, thank you, and merry Christmas to you too. Yeah, the key on the clutch you can actually shove it in the wrong way, someone had forced it into the wrong alignment, the alignment dowels were crushed, lol.
