Turning the key to start the truck, I hear a click and nothing else?

After turning the key to start the truck, I hear a click and nothing else. Sometimes, it starts fine on the first try, sometimes it clicks then I try 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 times until it starts. Once it starts it idles fine and is good to go. The engine is not cranking over.

This is common when you have a bad connection at the battery or the starter motor is going out, but to be sure let's check the battery cables first.
