Ignition switch

Van will not start (random). The engine cranks over, but no spark. Try again later, and it may start.

It could be the ignition switch. You should test the wire going to the ignition coil for voltage when the times it does not start.

There is power to the coil. Just a test light, though. I do not know the voltage.

Last fall I accidentally grounded the ignition wire, and then repaired the fusible link at the starter.

Are you doing this test while there is spark or when there is no spark? Because you have to wait until you have no spark.
