Ignition failure after steering rack fitted?

I have just had work done in my car, steering rack, rear suspension etc, upon collecting my car the mechanic said have you ever noticed issues with your ignition. Which I hadn’t had prior, key goes in fine but most of the time it doesn’t do anything, you have too pull up the steering collum give it a bang down and then it usually works, but is now taking longer and longer before the key actually works and lights come on. The key turns the ignition off/on fine.

Is it a 2.2l petrol, a e60 I think.

Yep, it sounds like the ignition switch itself is bad (contacts inside the switch) here is how you can change it out in the diagrams below. Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.
