I’ve lost my keys. Will punching the ignition cylinder with a screw driver hinder the removal or installation of the cylinder later when I’m able to get one?

Hi,

If the key is lost, chances are it won't start even if you do what was suggested. Does the vehicle have an anti-theft system? If it does, there is a receiver in the key lock cylinder. If it doesn't recognize the correct key, it won't allow the engine to start.

If there is no anti-theft, it should work. However, the lock will need to be replaced and it won't be as simple as putting a screw driver into the cylinder and turning. It will be difficult to break it.

If you do get a new one, I attached the directions for replacement below. To make it a little more difficult, the directions indicate to place the key in the ACC position.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if you have other questions or if there is something I can do to help.

Take care,

Joe
