Idle is high

My car is a five speed and when I drive on the highway in fifth gear at around 70mph my RPM'S are at 4000 and it just sound like the car is working to hard if that makes sense. How can I fix this thanks.

There is you can easily do to change the gear ratio. Unless the clutch is slipping, someone may have previously installed a different gear ratio in the differential. That sounds awful high.
