My cousin did an oil change in the car, and he said he may have bumped something when he did the oil filter. We are not getting reverse, or drive and they were both fine before the oil change.

Hi,

When you shift the gears, does the gear indicator change? For example, when in reverse or drive, does it show D or R?

I have a feeling the shift cable was bumped or disconnected. Plus, there is a mount for the cable that can cause this to happen if the cable comes disconnected.

Open the hood and on the top of the transmission, locate the shift cable and where it's mounted to the shift lever/range sensor. Have a helper shift through the gears to see if the lever is moving.

I attached a pic below showing the cable/shift lever.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
