Will crank and not stay active

I have this issue where the car wouldn't crank. So I replaced the negative ground wire that shorted out and it still wouldn't. Then replaced the starter.
Now it will crank and not stay active. I lose all power and the car cuts off as soon as you put into drive.
I may be a lady but I have come to the extent of my knowledge.
Please help. Thanks.

Hi,

I need to get a better understanding. Does the vehicle now start? Does it run normal before you place it in gear? By any chance, have you had the computer scanned to retrieve diagnostic trouble codes?
