Hyundai Elantra Transmission question

2000 Hyundai Elantra, 87K MI, Engine 2.0 4 cylinder in-line DOHC engine.

10 weeks after having the trans fluid changed at a drive through shop the transmission went out. The dealership tells me that Scrub a Dub uses a trans fluid that requires a modifier to make it compatible but it isn't compatible. Therefore, the warranty is void.

An independent shop says that the band drum failed/the splines stripped. (My words/interruption)

If this is true, how can Scrub a Dub sell the trans fluid? Did I really do this to my car? Does the lack of fluid cause this problem? How is the warranty from Hyundai?

Does it state that in the warranty info? I know Honda-matics were quite particular about what went in them for fluid. Googled it and found a few references to specific fluid.Also found some stories similar to yours.A mechanical part failur like you described is unlikely due to wrong type of fluid.If it were a band or clutch disc/ steel problem I could maybe see it. http://www.complaints.com/directory/2005/september/13/2.htm

Per the manual--"Hyundai ATF SPII M or Genuine Diamond ATF SP-II M. Damage caused by a nonspecified fluid is not covered by your warranty."
Was this failure caused by the wrong fluid?

Not sure how a hard part failure could be that easily related to the fluid type. Overheating maybe
