Hey, I got a 95 Elantra myself, my tire sizes are supposed to be 185/65/r14, but all four tires of mine now are 195/65/r14 and I have no problem with them, I guess that I will change them to 195/70/r14 for next year. I have seen no problem after about two years and it handles better in the icy and snowy surfaces.

A lot of people opt for one tire size over the factory spec simply for the better traction as you mention. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that your speedometer is registering slightly slower speeds by 5.4%. Thus 60mph on the speedometer really means that you are travelling at 63mph. Just something to keep in mind to avoid a speeding ticket. :D
