Hello,

I'm in the process of replacing the timing belt, but I can't get the center crankshaft bolt off the pulley.

I've put so much torque on the bolt that I am now questioning if it is a left handed thread.

Can anyone confirm that the crankshaft pulley bolt on a 2.0 liter Hyundai Elantra is turned counter clockwise to remove?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

its regular thread. when they are on that tight i put breaker bar on bolt and wedge it tight against something and have someone bump the ignition key and that usually has enough force to loosen it. i did it just the other day on a ford ranger my air gun would not budge it.

Try using an impact wrench and holding back the pulley, this should work. The threads are definitely left hand. This worked for me just yesterday. Also, remember to line up your marks first. Good luck!
