Brakes problem
2000 Hyundai Elantra 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My son has a 2000 Hyundai Elantra. He came home last night and told me his brake lights will not shut off. I went out and jiggled the brake pedal and that did the trick. I called my mechanic this morning and he said it is probably the brake light switch. I am just looking for a second opinion before I pay for the repair. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Shawn

Hello and thanks for donating

The brake light switch is what operates the brake lights on and off when pushing down on the brake pedal. It is attached to the brake pedal bracket. If the brake lights stay on continuously, the brake light switch is the most likely culprit. Since you wiggled the brake pedal and it helped it, just check the wiring to the switch first to make sure it is not damaged.
