I just bought a used 2002 Hyundai Accent and when I took it to get inspected it failed. The mechanic told me that the computer hadn't reset yet (the previous owners recently replaced the battery) and that I should drive it for another 100 miles and bring it back. I brought it back and they told me the same thing that it still hadn't reset and that I should try another 100 or so miles, that maybe my car just takes a little longer to reset. On my third try at getting it inspected they told me the computer still wasn't resetting and that they didn't know what was wrong with it. What should I do to fix this and how much is it going to cost me?

Hi marshar23,

Funny situation.

Normally for the ECMs that recalibrates themselves, it only takes maybe 1/2 an hour of running and all should be well.

Is the engine check light showing with ignition on?
If yes, does it light up while driving?
If yes, get a scan done to find the trouble code.
If no, check for a blown ECM memory fuse. Should be at fuse box under bonnet.

Thanks, I'll check for a blown fuse. Oddly enough nothing seems to be wrong with the car aside from the fact that the computer isn't resetting. No check engine lights come on and everything seems to run just fine.
