I have a 2001 Hyundai Accent with low miles that has started using oil. No noticable loss of power. No obvious leakage. Has used 5 quarts of oil since january oil change(2980 miles). Do you have any idea where the oil is going? It doesn't smoke and I cant figure it out. Took it to the dealer and they said I needed a valve job and that there was some sludge build-up.

Hi MRMTAYLOR,

If no leakage or excessive smoke is found, the valve seals are the most probable.

The intake valve seal leakage would be burnt in the combustion chamber so smoke much less.

If the exhaust valve seals leaks, smoke would be more but the engine have to be running warm before the smoke is noticeable.
