Electrical problem
1997 Hyundai Accent 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

Problem started out when I went out to start the car and it wouldn't start. Power was getting to everything but the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump and car ran for about a week then the same problem happened again. When taking the fuel pump back out I found out that that one of the wires on the sending unit was lose and about o break off. So, I replaced the sending unit. Still wouldnt start.

The weird thing is a couple days later it started on morning and ran for 2 weeks straight, then it happened again. Contacted my local hyundai garage and they said that is could be the fuel pump relay or the ignition switch.

Next, I replaced the relay and when taking the ignition switch out the old one fell apart as I was taking it out. Put in the new one and it ran for another week straight.

I thought It was fixed. So I thought Id replace the mass airflow sensor. When reading the OD2 codes it said it was going bad. I knew it was because evertime I ran the car and stoped at a light or stop sign, the car acted like it was going to stall but nvr did. After replacing the MAS that prob was completely fixed. Ran the car for the rest of the week and it ran fine, until a couple days ago, I go to start the car after work and the fuel pump isnt running again.

The fuel pump is loud enough that you can hear it when its running and you cant hear it now.

I sprayed starter fluid in the intake and it ran for a sec til the starter fluid was gone. So I know what the problem is. The engine is not getting any fuel. But with everything I have put on the car I cant figure out why the fuel pump is not working.

I also went to a local junk yard and found a hyundai exactly like mine and pulled the computer and tried it in my car, fuel pump still not working.

At 1st I could take the fuel pump relay cover off and manually squeeze it together and hear the fuel pump running, I tried doing it bout an hr ago and fuel pump still isnt working. Give me some ideas cause im stumped. Dont know what else to do.

Hi welder45,

Remove the fuel pump relay and bridge terminal 1 and 3 and test if the fuel pump starts.

With ignition switch turned on, there should be battery voltage at terminal 1 and 4.

Grounding terminal should get the fue pump working. Perform the above and let me know how it goes.
