I just recently bought a 95 Honda Prelude. The hood does not stay up when open. I do not see a normal hood stand anywhere in the engine compartment. I do know that some cars use spring hinges to keep the hood up. I'm trying to find out if this is one of those cars or if I'm just missing a hood stand.

Thanks for the help,
Jamie

Hello, this is really quite simple to check if you lift the hood and look up towards the bulkhead(aka firewall)where the hood is hinged you will see a spring inside the hinge mechanism, if not check the hood for rams(simular to the ones you would see attached to a boot lid when you open it)if these are there then they are faulty and need replacing otherwise you simply need a bar to hold the hood up hope this helps regards irishmobilemechanic

1995 Preludes should have a bar across the front to hold the hood up. It's not a piston or spring. If the bar isn't there, it probably rotted out or just got pulled out and the owner before you never replaced it. I'm sure you could find one at any junkyard or even find a replacement online. Another way to check, just for future reference, is if you look around on the under side of the hood, a lot of times if there is an arrow pointing a certain hole then it is a rod to hold it up.
