1998 Honda Passport EGR- Please Help!

Engine problem
1998 Honda Passport 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive 138000 miles

I have been informed that my egr intake port is clogged on the manifold. I was told that I can remove the air hose from the throttle body and with a flashlight can see the port at the back of the manifold directly behind the throttle body. I was told I can use the flashlight and a coat hanger or long screwdriver to clean out the egr port. Can you validate that. Please help, I need to get this fixed. Thanks.

I wouldnt use a screw driver as that may mar the surfaces, I would use a pipe cleaner or mini wire brush, the toothbrush style.
