Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Honda Passport Four Wheel Drive Automatic

I just replace the battery and alt. On my Passport last winter. Now I am having some problems with the starter.

I went to go start it this morning and all it would do was click ONCE. The lights were on bright and my battery gauge was showing full. So I tried it a could times. Turn it, click, turn it, click, about 5 times. Then the engine rolled over but only for about 1/2 a second, not long enough to start. Then I got a couple more clicks when trying to start it. Finally it started right up.

Is my starter going bad? Do I maybe have a loose connection somewhere? Where is the starter located on the Passport?

The problem is the starter.

(Follow the positiv battery cable, it will lead you to the starter.)
To remove it,
Disconnect the negative battery cable .

Remove the heated Oxygen (HO 2 S) sensor connectors

the exhaust front pipe

The heat shield

The starter wiring connectors and finally

The starter motor

NOTE: label any wire disconnected, to make installation more easier.

To install it
Install or connect the following:
Starter motor. Tighten the bolts to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm).

Starter wiring connectors

Heat shield

Exhaust front pipe

Heated Oxygen (HO 2 S) sensor connectors.

Negative battery cable.
Hope this help.
