Hey, I recently had a friend drive my van into a tree, which severely damaged the front bumper, which now needs to get replaced. My dad took it over to the dealership, and they gave an estimate of something like $2300 to replace the bumper. $794 was listed for parts, and the rest was labor, the majority of which was paint labor and supplies.

I was wondering if this is normal for the type of car I have. We were thinking of having somebody we know who is knowledgeable about car parts buy all of the required pieces and either fix it or get somebody else to, or there would be the option of taking it to an independent dealer.

Hi rgroene,

A second opinion is always good but not online. Without knowing the physical damage of the vehicle it is not possible to quote any estimate.

Furthermore prices ranges region to region and in your case, the labor and paint cost is the main thing. Parts cost is rather regularised so even if you get it from an independent shop, it might not vary much. The labor and paint might make a lot of difference if it is not by the dealer.
