Engine turns over, and has spark, main relay OK, distributor OK, fuel pump sounds, each time, injectors pulse, do not smell gas, checked fuses in engine compartment and under dash, will fire with starting fluid but quits a second later... What next? Anything else?If I need to check fuel pump pressure how do I that simply as I do not want to pull the tank. ANY SUGGESTIONS

Hi tdm3,

Seems fuel is not getting to the cylinders.

Unloosen the 6 mm hex bolt on the fuel filter and turn ignition ON, fuel should shoot, if not either PGM-FI main relay or fuel pump is faulty.

Did you test the fuel pump operations?

There is fuel coming out of the fuel filter, do not know what the pressure of the fuel coming out here is nor how to check the pressure of this. Can you check the pressure HERE. What are the fittings and how do you check it. If you can't check the pressure here WHERE without dropping the gas tank. The other suggestion you had-.. If this the MAIN RELAY you are refering to in the drivers kick panel near the fuse box? Is so it appears to be fine as had checked that. If this is NOT what you are you referring to where is what you ar talking about and how do you check it. Sure appreciate any further help.. Am bafled and NEEDY. Thanks

The fuel filter is where you check the presure. Fuel coming out does not mean it is pressurised. On top of the fuel filter fitting there is a small 6 mm sized bolt, loosen it and turn ignition switchON. Fuel must come out with pressure for 2 seconds. If it just trickles out, the fuel is not pressurised.

The correct way is to remove the bolt and attach a pressure gauge which you can loan from some part stores.

There is a fuel pressure reguator that has a return hose on the fuel rail. Unplug the return hose and with ignition switch ON fuel should come out unless it is not pressurised or does not have sufficient pressure. If fuel is coming out with ignition switch ON, it could be faulty. Try clamping on return hose to prevent fuel from returning to tank and if engine starts, the regulator should be faulty.

The PGM-FI main relay is correct as described.

Double checked the PGM FI and it was GOOD also. Will check the fuel pump pressure ASAP, (not today) thanks to your instructions. What should the pressure be?
